Over the next couple of weeks to months contractors and FEMA representatives will be working in Longmont.
1. A FEMA representative or FEMA Inspector will never ask you for money or to sign a contract for home repairs
2. FEMA representatives will have identification
3. If you haven’t applied for assistance or called your insurance company, be suspicious
4. Use local area contractors or businesses, be leery of door to door solicitors
5. If your concerned, ask them to come back at a scheduled time and ask a neighbor to stay with you during the meeting
6. Ask if you can take their picture. Write down a license plate and get a good description of their vehicle
7. Be suspicious of anyone who offers to increase the amount of your disaster damage assessment.
8. Be skeptical of offers to help you fill out loan or grant forms and applications for a fee. If you need help filling out your Small Business Administration (SBA) loan package, call the SBA toll-free number at 1-800-659-2955 or go to the Disasters Assistance Center at the Twin Peaks Mall, 1250 S. Hover Rd., Longmont, CO
Call the Longmont Police Department immediately at (303) 651-8501, if you suspect fraud or someone working a scam in your neighborhood.
If you have applied for assistance through FEMA, you can speed the process by having key items available. FEMA representatives will need to see:
1. Picture Identification (Driver’s License, Voter Registration Card, etc.) and you will need to know your Social Security number
2. Proof of Ownership/Occupancy of damaged residence (Structural Insurance, Tax Bill, Mortgage Payment Book/Utility Bill etc.)
3. Insurance documents: Home and/or Auto (Structural Insurance/Auto Declaration Sheet etc.)
4. List of household occupants living in residence at time of disaster
5. All disaster related damages to both real and personal property
Remember: They will never ask for money.
