Grant Application Available for the St. Vrain Flooding Relief Fund

The Longmont Community Foundation has established the St. Vrain Flooding Relief Fund. It is designed to provide financial resources to charitable organizations that are involved in the relief and rebuilding efforts in the St. Vrain Valley related to the September 2013 flood.

The 12 member selection committee will review each request and make its recommendations quickly. The grant application is purposely brief because our intent is to not make it burdensome for those organizations that are helping our community recover. 100% of funds received will be distributed and a final report of the distributions will be available on our website after the funds have been expended from the St. Vrain Flooding Relief Fund.

Outage and Emergency Contact Numbers Over the Weekend

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and the Call Center run by the City of Longmont is now closed. The city has resumed normal business hours. If you have a life threatening emergency, dial 9-1-1. Otherwise, you can contact our non-emergency numbers for specific service requests.

Residents can also visit the Disaster Assistance Center located in the Twin Peaks Mall (former Steve and Barry's space) at 1250 South Hover. It is open 9 am - 7pm seven days a week until the need subsides.

Disaster Assistance Center is Open to Help Those Affected by the Flood

Location: The Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) is located at 1250 South Hover. The DAC entrance is located on the west side of the Twin Peaks Mall in the former location of Steve & Barry’s just south of Sears.
Hours of operation: The center will operate from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., seven days a week until the need subsides.
Who is being helped: This center is open to serve all Boulder County residents.
What residents need to bring with them: Please bring any paperwork that would assist in verifying your address and assisting with your needs such as utility bills, identification, social security number, insurance policy paperwork, etc.
How can residents contact the DAC: Due to the temporary nature of the facility, no phone service exists and we encourage residents to come in with any questions or help they need.  
Agencies represented at the DAC:  FEMA, Workforce Boulder County, Boulder County Public Health, Boulder County Land Use, the OUR Center, and American Family Insurance. Three other non-profits are also on-site to assist with private home clean up: Convoy of Hope, Samaritans Purse, and the Southern Baptist Convention. For those in need of clean up kits, bottled water and other necessities assistance can be found at the DAC.
NOTE ABOUT FEMA: FEMA requires that all residents register www.disasterassistance.gov. You may do this at the DAC or you may do this prior to going to the DAC. If you are denied FEMA coverage initially, please READ THE ENTIRE LETTER, as it outlines the possibility that you need to supply insurance information in order to receive assistance.

Video Posted From Monday September 16, Longmont State of the City Address

Longmont city leaders described the devastation caused by the 2013 flood and updated residents on current conditions.

The City of Longmont held a “State of the City” meeting Monday, September 16th, 2013 at 7pm (MST).

The meeting provided information regarding the flood as well as updates regarding progress in recovery, and community resources for recovery and restoration. City staff representatives scheduled included:

  • Dennis Coombs, Mayor of Longmont: Introduction and event overview
  • Harold Dominguez, Longmont City Manager: Overview of impacted areas
  • Dan Eamon, Emergency Operations Manager: Recovery Activities and resources for restoration
  • Dale Rademacher, Director of Public Works and Natural Resources

The State of the City Address will also be re-broadcast at 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., everyday through September 24th.

Where To Go To Obtain a Building Permit for Flood Related Damages

The City of Longmont Building Inspection Division will have information available at the Disaster Recovery Center (DAC) about flood damage to homes and how to obtain a building permit to repair the damages, as well as permit applications. Please look for the table just inside the west entrance of the DAC to find the information.

In order to better serve the needs of the residents and contractors, we will be completing all permitting activities at the Development Services Center, 385 Kimbark St, Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm, where we have a full staff to assist in the process. We will be offering extended hours this Saturday, September 21, from 8am to 2pm, to help answer questions and assist homeowners and contractors in obtaining building permits for flood related damages. We will continue to monitor the activity and offer extended hours as the need arises.

Xcel Energy Emergency Update: Floods in the Front Range and Northern Colorado

Longmont – One of the areas most severely affected by flooding is the Royal Mobile Home Park, where 62 natural gas customers are out of service due to the significant damage. We will restore service when authorities indicate it is safe to do so.

FEMA Representation In Flooded Areas And How to Prepare Documentation To Speed Up Assistance

Over the next couple of weeks to months contractors and FEMA representatives will be working in Longmont.

Remember:

1. A FEMA representative or FEMA Inspector will never ask you for money or to sign a contract for home repairs
2. FEMA representatives will have identification
3. If you haven’t applied for assistance or called your insurance company, be suspicious
4. Use local area contractors or businesses, be leery of door to door solicitors
5. If your concerned, ask them to come back at a scheduled time and ask a neighbor to stay with you during the meeting
6. Ask if you can take their picture. Write down a license plate and get a good description of their vehicle
7. Be suspicious of anyone who offers to increase the amount of your disaster damage assessment.
8. Be skeptical of offers to help you fill out loan or grant forms and applications for a fee. If you need help filling out your Small Business Administration (SBA) loan package, call the SBA toll-free number at 1-800-659-2955 or go to the Disasters Assistance Center at the Twin Peaks Mall, 1250 S. Hover Rd., Longmont, CO

Call the Longmont Police Department immediately at (303) 651-8501, if you suspect fraud or someone working a scam in your neighborhood.
If you have applied for assistance through FEMA, you can speed the process by having key items available. FEMA representatives will need to see:

1. Picture Identification (Driver’s License, Voter Registration Card, etc.) and you will need to know your Social Security number
2. Proof of Ownership/Occupancy of damaged residence (Structural Insurance, Tax Bill, Mortgage Payment Book/Utility Bill etc.)
3. Insurance documents: Home and/or Auto (Structural Insurance/Auto Declaration Sheet etc.)
4. List of household occupants living in residence at time of disaster
5. All disaster related damages to both real and personal property

Remember: They will never ask for money.
