FEMA Representation In Flooded Areas And How to Prepare Documentation To Speed Up Assistance

Over the next couple of weeks to months contractors and FEMA representatives will be working in Longmont.

Remember:

1. A FEMA representative or FEMA Inspector will never ask you for money or to sign a contract for home repairs
2. FEMA representatives will have identification
3. If you haven’t applied for assistance or called your insurance company, be suspicious
4. Use local area contractors or businesses, be leery of door to door solicitors
5. If your concerned, ask them to come back at a scheduled time and ask a neighbor to stay with you during the meeting
6. Ask if you can take their picture. Write down a license plate and get a good description of their vehicle
7. Be suspicious of anyone who offers to increase the amount of your disaster damage assessment.
8. Be skeptical of offers to help you fill out loan or grant forms and applications for a fee. If you need help filling out your Small Business Administration (SBA) loan package, call the SBA toll-free number at 1-800-659-2955 or go to the Disasters Assistance Center at the Twin Peaks Mall, 1250 S. Hover Rd., Longmont, CO

Call the Longmont Police Department immediately at (303) 651-8501, if you suspect fraud or someone working a scam in your neighborhood.
If you have applied for assistance through FEMA, you can speed the process by having key items available. FEMA representatives will need to see:

1. Picture Identification (Driver’s License, Voter Registration Card, etc.) and you will need to know your Social Security number
2. Proof of Ownership/Occupancy of damaged residence (Structural Insurance, Tax Bill, Mortgage Payment Book/Utility Bill etc.)
3. Insurance documents: Home and/or Auto (Structural Insurance/Auto Declaration Sheet etc.)
4. List of household occupants living in residence at time of disaster
5. All disaster related damages to both real and personal property

Remember: They will never ask for money.

Disaster Assistance Center is Open to Help Those Affected by Flood

Location: The Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) is located at 1250 South Hover. The DAC entrance is located on the west side of the Twin Peaks Mall in the former location of Steve & Barry’s just south of Sears.
Hours of operation: The center will operate from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., seven days a week until the need subsides.
Who is being helped: This center is open to serve all Boulder County residents.
What residents need to bring with them: Please bring any paperwork that would assist in verifying your address and assisting with your needs such as utility bills, identification, social security number, insurance policy paperwork, etc.
How can residents contact the DAC: Due to the temporary nature of the facility, no phone service exists and we encourage residents to come in with any questions or help they need
Agencies represented at the DAC:  FEMA, Workforce Boulder County, Boulder County Public Health, Boulder County Land Use, the OUR Center, and American Family Insurance. Three other non-profits are also on-site to assist with private home clean up: Convoy of Hope, Samaritans Purse, and the Southern Baptist Convention. For those in need of clean up kits, bottled water and other necessities assistance can be found at the DAC.
NOTE ABOUT FEMA: FEMA requires that all residents register www.disasterassistance.gov. You may do this at the DAC or you may do this prior to going to the DAC. If you are denied FEMA coverage initially, please READ THE ENTIRE LETTER, as it outlines the possibility that you need to supply insurance information in order to receive assistance.
