Flood Fundraising in Longmont This Weekend (9/20 - 9/22)

While the Downtown Longmont community is deeply saddened by the loss and destruction that many in our community are facing, we are overwhelmed by those calling to assist, help, volunteer and give.

This weekend, there will be several ways for the community to gather, celebrate Longmont’s strength and donate to those in need in our community.

In partnership with the Longmont Community Foundation, donations can be made to the St. Vrain Flooding Relief Fund. 100% of the proceeds will go directly toward helping the community recover from the devastation of the recent flooding.

There will be several opportunities to give financial donations to our community members in need.

  • On Friday, September 20 from 6:30 – 9 p.m.  ArtWalk will still be held, although Main Street will still be open to vehicular traffic. Activities will be moved to 4th and 5th Avenues directly off of Main Street.  All participating businesses will have information on how to give and cash or checks can be contributed at the Longmont Community foundation/Longmont Downtown Development Authority booth at 4th and Main near Ziggi’s Coffee.
  • During Oktoberfest at Roosevelt Park on Friday and Saturday, September 20 – 21st, donations can be made to the Left Hand Brewing Foundation for Flood Relief 2013.
  • On Sunday, Fireball Run kicks off in downtown Longmont. Teams will be assisting in raising money for the flood relief in our community. Come help us send off the 40 teams at 8 a.m. on the corner of 5th and Main - participate in the Tiny Tim Center fun run or just come cheer on the participants.

FEMA Representation In Flooded Areas And How to Prepare Documentation To Speed Up Assistance

Over the next couple of weeks to months contractors and FEMA representatives will be working in Longmont.

Remember:

1. A FEMA representative or FEMA Inspector will never ask you for money or to sign a contract for home repairs
2. FEMA representatives will have identification
3. If you haven’t applied for assistance or called your insurance company, be suspicious
4. Use local area contractors or businesses, be leery of door to door solicitors
5. If your concerned, ask them to come back at a scheduled time and ask a neighbor to stay with you during the meeting
6. Ask if you can take their picture. Write down a license plate and get a good description of their vehicle
7. Be suspicious of anyone who offers to increase the amount of your disaster damage assessment.
8. Be skeptical of offers to help you fill out loan or grant forms and applications for a fee. If you need help filling out your Small Business Administration (SBA) loan package, call the SBA toll-free number at 1-800-659-2955 or go to the Disasters Assistance Center at the Twin Peaks Mall, 1250 S. Hover Rd., Longmont, CO

Call the Longmont Police Department immediately at (303) 651-8501, if you suspect fraud or someone working a scam in your neighborhood.
If you have applied for assistance through FEMA, you can speed the process by having key items available. FEMA representatives will need to see:

1. Picture Identification (Driver’s License, Voter Registration Card, etc.) and you will need to know your Social Security number
2. Proof of Ownership/Occupancy of damaged residence (Structural Insurance, Tax Bill, Mortgage Payment Book/Utility Bill etc.)
3. Insurance documents: Home and/or Auto (Structural Insurance/Auto Declaration Sheet etc.)
4. List of household occupants living in residence at time of disaster
5. All disaster related damages to both real and personal property

Remember: They will never ask for money.

FOR ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE CALL: FEMA HELPLINE/REGISTRATION (1-800-621-3362)

Entertainment Series Filming In Longmont Mobilizes To Assist Flood Effort

ENTERTAINMENT SERIES FILMING IN LONGMONT MOBILIZES TO ASSIST FLOOD EFFORT

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS ORLANDO, FLORIDA- Longmont, Colorado was selected as the official Green Flag City for the 2013 FIREBALL RUN live event & online TV series. Recruitment of the series from Universal Studios Florida was a collaborate effort between City of Longmont Economic Development and Longmont Tourism.

Scheduled live events and filming was to begin this Saturday with celebrity, business leader, and elected leadership arriving from all over the world. Longmont was selected as the official starting line city for the massive 2000 mile, 45 team live action online TV series. Then came the biblical storm. Show producers in Florida closely monitored national news and for a moment it seemed the production would be scrapped in the city; instead the opposite happened.

The shows Executive Producer refused to let a biblical storm change their view on Longmont. “It was decided amongst show leadership we will stick with this city and see it through. We have over 100 of the countries most progressive business leaders and influential industry leaders from all around arriving into Longmont. While here, we’re going to help these people get back to normal.” Said Sanchez.

FIREBALL RUN Teams will meet tomorrow at 9:00 am at Longmont Meals on Wheels. Together they will serve as “Celebrity Delivery Drivers” expediting meals throughout Longmont in vehicles ranging from a 1978 Rolls Royce, to several Ferraris, even the Time Car from Back to the Future. Celebrity drivers include Astronaut Jon McBride, Lamborghini Legend Valentino Balboni, Longbeach Grand Prix Winner Shea Holbrook, World Champion Wake boarder Tarah Mikacich, the Co-host of car warriors on SpeedChannel, Ray McClelland, renown stunt driver Artie Malesci, 2 Ohio State Representatives, the Mayor of Riverside California, and an entire barrage of business and elected leaders from all around. “This is awesome. These people from other cities putting our interests over theirs.” Said Karla “More than an entertainment series. FIREBALL RUN is good people, having a great time, doing the right thing”, said Matthew Morak, the shows Community Affairs liaison.

In addition to serving meals, FIREBALL RUN organized an impromptu telethon for this Saturdays live event taping. All drivers will man phones eliciting their families, friends, and fans to make cash donations to the City of Longmont Foundation. 100% of the proceeds to be use exclusively to support the flood effort.

FIREBALL RUN is the Most Epic Adventurally in America® a gripping and emotional 8 day, 2500 mile, life-sized trivia game, where America serves as the game board; 40 driving teams compete for glory, bragging rights, and a plastic road sign, all while aiding in a massive effort to recover America's missing children. The highly popular online TV episodic series is watched world wide by an audience of 1.7 million and has aided in the recovery of 38 missing kids. Last year the show earned $44 million in positive exposure for its previous Green Flag City, Independence Ohio. The event is taped live and the public is encouraged to come out and meet the celebrities and check out the cars beginning at 8 am this Saturday September 21st in Roosevelt Park.

The show can be seen live at FIREBALL RUN’s site www.FIREBALLRUN.com/live. Entire episodes are available at www.fireballrun.com

Beware of Unscrupulous Contractors Dumping Waste Illegally

Apparently some unscrupulous contractors have moved into the Longmont area.  We have received reports of dump trucks entering Longmont neighborhoods and dumping waste and debris illegally, most likely from areas around Longmont.  This is not authorized and prohibited by law.

We would ask our community to get a license plate and description of the truck.  If you can, snap a photo with your phone or camera.   If you see someone illegally dumping in your neighborhood, please don’t confront, call the Longmont Police at 303-651-8501 immediately.
