125 homes were evacuated Friday morning and another 29 were placed on pre-evacuation status due to a reported wildfire west of Longmont near the 5000 block of Nelson Road, according to the Boulder County Office of Emergency Management.
The fire was reported by the OEM around 7:40 a.m. A second fire was reported on Wagonwheel Gap Road at around 8:20 a.m. The Boulder County Fairgrounds has opened a large animal evacuation center.
In addition to stirring the fire, high winds have also brought down tree branches onto power lines inside Longmont, causing scattered outages. As of 8:50 a.m, lines have been reported down at the 1400 block of South Collyer Street, at Gay Street and Price, and at 12th Avenue and Francis Street. Traffic lights have been reported out at Ken Pratt and Emery Street, Main Street and Quebec, South Hover Street and Boston Avenue, and South Hover Street and Nelson.
